The Role

The Armidale Regional Council is seeking a highly skilled professional to operate a variety of equipment across the mobile plant and heavy vehicles fleet, associated with the maintenance and construction of state and regional roads and associated infrastructure. In this role, you will undertake labouring and plant operation in a highly competent, productive, and safe manner. You will also be responsible for implementing traffic control plans, maintaining site controls, and ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with Safe Work Methods.

Alongside these duties, you will be instrumental in coordinating with other team members and departments to ensure seamless project execution. Your ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively will be key in achieving project goals and maintaining high standards of road infrastructure. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the planning and scheduling of maintenance activities, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently and projects are completed on time.

About You

To excel in the Multi-Skilled Operator role at Armidale Regional Council, you'll need a blend of expertise and passion for operating heavy machinery. If you have demonstrated high-level competence in the multi-skilled operation of at least five types of heavy machinery (such as graders, excavators, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, road rollers, and watercarts) and have a current Class HR Driver’s Licence, you're already on the right track. Excellent communication skills will enable you to collaborate effectively with the entire team. Your role will involve operating and maintaining various types of mobile plant equipment, so being hands-on is essential. Problem-solving should be second nature to you, and you should have the ability to document procedures and continuously seek improvements.

At Council, we believe in looking out for each other and the community we serve. Whether you're out in the field or helping customers face-to-face, our values—wellbeing, inclusion, commitment, and transparency—guide everything we do.

We’re looking for people who bring a positive attitude, take pride in their work, and support their teammates to do the same.

If you care about doing a good job and making a real difference every day, we’d love to have you on the team.
