About Maribyrnong Youth Services

The City of Maribyrnong is a culturally, socially and economically diverse inner-city community. Maribyrnong City Council Youth Services deliver a variety of programs, activities and events for young people aged 12 -25 years from the Phoenix Youth Centre and around the Maribyrnong region.

The Opportunity

Maribyrnong Youth Services is seeking an innovative and passionate Young Communities Advocate wanting to make a positive difference in our community. In this role, and under the guidance and support of the Youth Development Lead, you will develop a project/program/activity to support the broader aims of the Children, Young People and Families Strategy 2020-2030.

Key Responsibilities

Work alongside Youth Workers towards enabling and ensuring:

  • the engagement and inclusion of all young people.
  • the voice of young people to be heard.
  • the safety of young people.
  • respect for young people's human dignity and worth.
  • young people's connectedness to important people in their lives, such as family and community.
  • positive health and wellbeing outcomes for young people.
  • positive transitions and healthy development of young people.
  • social justice for young people.

About You

  • Passionate about young people and making a positive difference in your community.
  • Innovative and creative, with big ideas and motivation to follow through on proposed ideas.
  • A team player, good at building relationships.
  • Knows how and when to lead and when to support.
  • Strong and open communicator.
  • Open to new experiences, learnings and on-going improvement.
  • Able to pick yourself up and try a something different when things don't work out as you planned
  • Strong connection with underrepresented communities; including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, Disabled young people, Newly arrived or refugee young people, Multicultural and multi-faith young people, LGBTQIA+ young people.
