About the role

As part of Central Coast Council's Child Care team you will put your passion for preparing nutritious food to great use, looking after the development of growing children. You will have the children’s best interests at heart and facilitate respectful relationships both with colleagues and parents as you deliver delicious, varied and nutritious meals and snacks for children aged between 6 weeks and 5 years.

The Caterer position works primarily within school hours, typically between 8.30am and 1.30pm, providing a great opportunity for experienced cooks looking for the flexibility to fit in with family or other commitments. 

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Council will also be creating an eligibility list from this recruitment process and may utilise this eligibility list to fill other permanent childcare caterer vacancies.

Key activities of this role include:

  • Plan, display, prepare and evaluate fortnightly menus according to nutritional guidelines as recommended by the NSW Health Department for all children in care in consultation with staff and families
  • Provide a diversity of menus to reflect the nutritional, cultural and dietary requirements for all children in care
  • Organise kitchen supplies and delivery for both consumable and durable goods in accordance with the annual/weekly budget under the supervision of the Centre Director
  • Champion and maintain the health, hygiene and safety standards of kitchen utensils and equipment according to statutory regulations.

About you:

  • Ideally holding a Statement of Attainment in Food Handling, you have solid recent experience in a similar role catering for large groups
  • You have a current, valid Working with Children's Check Clearance (or are willing to obtain prior to any formal offer of employment)
  • You want to work for the benefit of children and families in your community
  • You are adaptable and self motivated, bringing a positive and organised approach to your work, and enjoy being part of a lively team environment 
  • Having a work/life balance is important to you

Other important information

  • The commencing salary for this position is up to $32.38 per hour. Central Coast Council also provides progression opportunities for employees to progress up to the maximum salary of $37.51 per hour on completion of assessment of skills and performance 11.5% superannuation 
  • We have a permanent part time role available. 
  • This role is located at Northlakes Little Coast Kids.
