The Media and Communications Officer is responsible for effective audience engagement and to enhance the customer experience, through targeted and responsive media, marketing and communications. The incumbent is responsible for building and strengthening relationships with local media, internal stakeholders, partner agencies, relevant government departments, working groups and community through engaging content creation, both digital and traditional.

The Media and Communications Officer in conjunction with the Executive Services Manager will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of organisational communication tools such as social media (e.g., Facebook; Instagram), Council’s website, advertising, media materials and publications, and internal communication materials. The incumbent will be required to assist the Executive Services Manager in the delivery of strategic media and communications initiatives.

Employment Status:  Full Time, Permanent

Award:                        Level 4 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award – State 2017

Salary Range:            $ 86,940.00 to $ 91,536.00 per annum

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have:

| Essential Knowledge, skills and abilities |

  • High level knowledge and demonstrated ability to create content across all marketing and communication platforms, along with experience in liaising with a range of stakeholders and audiences.
  • Ability to assist in the development, implementation and management of communication strategies, including, but not limited to, marketing, branding and internal/external communications, to a high standard that supports Council’s strategic and operational direction and objectives.
  • Well-developed professional writing skills and the ability to correctly use grammar, punctuation and spelling to enable consistent and professional delivery of message.
  • Ability to research, write, edit, proofread, and demonstrate presentation skills, across a range of communication tools for varied projects and audiences.
  • Ability to work with a high level of independence, and demonstrate proficiency in prioritisation of tasks, meeting deadlines and adapting to changing demands.
  • High degree of personal integrity and the ability to be tactful when dealing with matters of a sensitive nature, and demonstrate behaviour aligned with Council’s values.
  • Well-developed computer literacy skills, including experience or ability to rapidly acquire skills with software programs generic to the public sector and marketing and communications industry.
  • Ability to contribute to team direction, give and receive feedback and achieve agreed performance standards in order to contribute to a culture of performance excellence.

| Essential Education/Qualifications |

  • Tertiary qualifications in communication, journalism, marketing or related discipline, or equivalent experience in a corporate communications role, preferably in a government context.

| Essential Licences |

  • Possession and maintenance of a current Queensland “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
